Happy new year

Wishing you all a very happy new year !!!

While departing, 2006 has gifted a good break... what a way to start 2007 with a long weekend.. and many more long weekends to come in this month :):)

Good news for foodies like me in chennai.... Cream Centre ...one of my favorite joints in Mumbai has opened a branch here :) ...
We got to know about it few days back, tried to find it..and finally made it this weekend...
.........loved eating their Cheesy nachos after a long long time !!

Actually we have been trying a lot of new good places ...and have loved eating at many places... some of the joints have become kind of our favorites. Murugan Idli Shop and Sarvana Bhavan remain our south indian hot spots... Rangoli for gujrati thali, Tangarine for sizzlers... Great kabab factory for Kababs... Mainland China for Chinese, Farmhouse , Sigree for Indian...... and there are many more to still left to try!!

So looking forward to a good food filled sumptuous new year!!!! :)

Another post... so fast???

6 Months... thats the time we have already spent in Chennai..... and seems like we have been here for quite sometime now.. and frankly speaking.. no complaints till now :) Infact, I guess we are enjoying this city more than Bangalore.... we have kind of got used to the city.. :):)

Seen a lot of movies..the recent one being Kabul Express... good movie.... dont know what people were expecting out of this movie...as the general feedback is that movie lacks something... may be they were expecting some hindi movie heroics from John.. but according to me, the movie is good and practical... brings lots of thought provoking questions... like what are the hidden agendas and how things are manipulated.

Next in like.. .Happy Feet... hopefully that is going to be this weekend :):)

2007 is knocking the door... !! Dont believe in making any resolutions... but looking forward for a good and fruitful year !!!!

So what are your plans for the new year eve?????

Writing this post from office..after ages i suppose :) !!Day is a bit dull... but lots of work..
Chennai weather is good these days..how pathetic the roads and travelling in chennai has become because of these rains is a different matter.... and me is feeling lazy..!! But this is gonna be there for few days.. and the madras heat will come back..
Anyways...time to get back to work!!

That feels great

Last week, me and wifey were in trying to buy a gift for a friend, in a gift store.. and we saw this old lady hesitantly looking at us... and then she finally approached us...

She had a card in hand and wanted us to suggest and write something good in punjabi on the card... this card was for some friends of hers....who helped and cared for them a lot when they travelled up north. She asked us to see if we could suggest something which they would probably like and value... may be something from Guru Granth Sahib...

It gave both of us a great feeling of how someone values the relationships and small acts of goodness done...and it was really sweet of her to actually take pains to find out something that would make them feel good...!!

Wish we had more people like this than the cunning politicians that we have, creating unknown barriers and unimeginative issues for everything that can make them powerful and get something good for them..!!

Chennai

Its been around 3 months in chennai.....and seems like we are here for quite long time....!
Before we came here.. when ever we used to tell anyone that we are shifting to chennai, people reacted as if we are going to Kaala Paani..... such is the reputation that Chennai enjoys....... the salty water..., the language ... the goons who are also known as auto rickshaw walas.... hot and humid climate... no hindi movies.. no eating joints....
well..thanks to all these well wishers, we had our expectations so low from this Metro which is not considered a metro... that we actually find this place not as bad as we had thought :)

No doubt that weather is hot and humid... and that language is one issue..... but i guess things can be managed....

Keeping in mind that we both enjoy eating out alot.... chennai offers lesser options than bangalore.. but then in bangalore on a weekend, you will never find place in any of the restaurants on a weekend.. but here you can happily go in without any waiting period... except for a few places... !

we have had some good exposure to the eating joints around the city... right from mainland China & Copper Chimney to saravanas and murugan idly shop... and enjoyed every bit of it ....

On the movies front, the options are limited to Satyam.. but i heard that PVR and adlabs etc are planning to enter the city... hopefully that will help people like us... and give better options.

one little crib: ...All the FM channels are in Tamil... and the office bus drivers play it very loud ..... even Anil Ambani's newly announced channel is an all tamil channel only:(:(

why cant they start one channel which has some good mix of hindi and english music also!!!

All in all.... Chennai is not as bad as it is considered.... probably things should improve with more and more companies coming in.. and more of more people from outside the state coming here for their jobs.....

An example of indian Yinglish

just came across this on my company bulletin board... and couldnt help smiling...
at the same time, it made me wonder.....that we are talking about being the leaders for
IT & ITES services industry and everyone is taking for granted that they are born to start
earning some 20K right from the day they start working... where is the quality of executives
required...????

This piece is written by someone who most probably would be atleast a graduate...if not an engineer.

....No pun intended for any person/ region/ cast / creed or what so ever....
just something to think about and on the lighter side, have a good laugh :)
