Chennai

Its been around 3 months in chennai.....and seems like we are here for quite long time....!
Before we came here.. when ever we used to tell anyone that we are shifting to chennai, people reacted as if we are going to Kaala Paani..... such is the reputation that Chennai enjoys....... the salty water..., the language ... the goons who are also known as auto rickshaw walas.... hot and humid climate... no hindi movies.. no eating joints....
well..thanks to all these well wishers, we had our expectations so low from this Metro which is not considered a metro... that we actually find this place not as bad as we had thought :)

No doubt that weather is hot and humid... and that language is one issue..... but i guess things can be managed....

Keeping in mind that we both enjoy eating out alot.... chennai offers lesser options than bangalore.. but then in bangalore on a weekend, you will never find place in any of the restaurants on a weekend.. but here you can happily go in without any waiting period... except for a few places... !

we have had some good exposure to the eating joints around the city... right from mainland China & Copper Chimney to saravanas and murugan idly shop... and enjoyed every bit of it ....

On the movies front, the options are limited to Satyam.. but i heard that PVR and adlabs etc are planning to enter the city... hopefully that will help people like us... and give better options.

one little crib: ...All the FM channels are in Tamil... and the office bus drivers play it very loud ..... even Anil Ambani's newly announced channel is an all tamil channel only:(:(

why cant they start one channel which has some good mix of hindi and english music also!!!

All in all.... Chennai is not as bad as it is considered.... probably things should improve with more and more companies coming in.. and more of more people from outside the state coming here for their jobs.....

My dad did his engineering and army training from Chennai and so it was very near to his heart. I think its all about going to a city with an open mind. Almost every city has some good and bad points. I am sure idli-dosa of Chennai is better than Bangalore... :P

I have been reading about TN a lot here esp. Chennai and Coimbatore. These are said to be two of the fastest growing cities in India. Also, Chennai is good for manufacturing and so a lot of Auto Cos. are moving there.

I am sure with time things will improve and the city will become more cosmopolitian. Although, mujhe shak hain ke you will hear English/Hindi music in your bus for some time to come...LOL

about the fm issue yaa even my other frend from chennai is really pissed of for the same reason.

they shud do sumthing about it..chennai is an upcoming city i feel..they shudnt confine themselves to their own regional convictions. Since the habitants are from such diverse backgrounds they must be a little more ready to adapt to the new population of ppl as well .what do u say?-sonali titzbitz.rediffblogs

@Ricky...yes...chennai is attracting lot of investments...and now IT companies are turning towards Madurai and Coimbatore as cheaper options...i wonder why cant they open some centres in places like Jaipur, Dehradun...which are nice cities and can attract lot of talent also

@Mehak....so dinner at Murugan idly shop today?? :)

@Sonali...yes..traditionally people are bit xenophobic...as long as they are in their city...so think its gonna take sometime..

@Prasad....ECR is good.. but the narrow area near the city is a pain....you actually need to go out of city to enjoy the ECR...
